Want to get better at AI without spending a fortune on courses promising to turn you into a genius by Thursday?
Anthropic, the company behind Claude, is offering free training through its Claude Academy. We’ve picked six courses worth a look, covering everything from your first AI conversation to building software and improving creative workflows.
The best part? You don’t need to take all six. Here’s how to choose which one is best for you.

1. Claude 101 – Best for Beginners
Duration: 2.5 hours | 13 lessons
Never used Claude? This is your starting point. Learn how to write effective prompts, organize projects, create documents and other content with Artifacts, and connect Claude to additional tools.
Who’s it for? AI newcomers, everyday users and professionals wanting to get more productive.
Worth taking? Yes. A solid introduction, although experienced AI users might find some lessons familiar.

2. AI Fluency: Framework and Foundations – Best Overall
Duration: 4 hours | 14 lessons
This one’s about something more important than clever prompts: knowing when to trust AI and when to question it.
You’ll learn Anthropic’s 4D Framework: Delegation, Description, Discernment and Diligence. In plain English? What to give AI, how to explain the task, how to evaluate its work, and how to use it responsibly.
Who’s it for? Pretty much everyone, from beginners to experienced professionals.
Worth taking? Absolutely. The skills transfer to ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI platforms. Our pick for most people.

3. Claude Code in Action – Best for Experienced Claude Code Users
Duration: 1 hour | 9 lessons
Ready to move beyond asking AI to fix a few lines of code? Learn how to manage longer coding sessions, automate repetitive tasks, configure permissions and verify the results.
Who’s it for? Developers already using Claude Code who want more advanced workflows.

Who’s it for? Product creators, developers, entrepreneurs and people building digital tools with AI.
Worth taking? Yes. Especially valuable for people who can get AI to build something but aren’t always sure how to judge the finished product. The foundational AI Fluency course is recommended beforehand.

6. Claude Code 101 – Best for Aspiring AI-Assisted Coders
Duration: 1.5 hours | 12 lessons
Want to understand how AI coding agents actually work?
Learn how to set up Claude Code, manage tasks, review code and use a structured workflow instead of simply asking AI to build something and hoping for the best.
Who’s it for? New and experienced developers who haven’t used Claude Code, plus technically inclined learners with basic command-line and code-editor familiarity.
Worth taking? Yes, especially before Claude Code in Action. It isn’t a complete learn-to-code course, however.
Wait. Are They Really Free?
Yes. The training is free, and the six courses include quizzes and completion badges.
There is a catch worth knowing: some hands-on Claude features require paid access. Claude Code 101, for example, lists an eligible paid Claude account or API key as a prerequisite for practical use.
And while completion badges are useful additions to a learning profile, don’t confuse them with professional certifications. Demonstrable skills still matter considerably more, so make sure you create something based on what you learn!
