Imagine creating an entire world, stepping inside it, and changing everything around you with a few words. Google just made that possible.
Announced October 27, Google Genie 4 is an experimental AI world model from Google DeepMind that generates interactive, explorable environments in real time. Unlike an AI-generated picture or video, Genie 4 lets you move around inside the world you’ve created. And change it while you’re there.
What Can Google Genie 4 Actually Do?
Imagine walking through a medieval village. Need a thunderstorm? Done.
Want to introduce a mysterious stranger? Just ask.
You can move the camera, change the scenery, or see what happens when things collide. Genie 4 responds as the action unfolds. And it even generates environmental sounds, music, and interactive conversations with AI characters.
Behind the scenes, Google’s Gemini models help keep the world behaving logically as you explore it.
It’s the closest thing to lucid dreaming you can get!
Why Is This Such a Big Deal?
The possibilities extend far beyond gaming.
Filmmakers could explore virtual sets before shooting. Game developers could test interactive worlds without building them from scratch. Educators could bring historical scenes to life. Researchers could train robots in realistic simulations.
And that’s just the beginning.
Can You Try Google Genie 4 Yet?
Sorry, but no. Genie 4 is currently available to selected research testers, with access planned for Google AI Ultra subscribers through Project Genie and early-access developers.
There’s another catch: simulations currently remain coherent for only about two minutes, and objects or visual details can change unexpectedly. So it is still very early days.
The real question: If you could create any world imaginable, where would you go first?
